Swieqi valley
Swieqi council consists of Tal-Ibrag, St Andrew’s and Madliena and this area usually attracts middle/upper class due to property value. Property is particularly scarce in Swieqi and what comes on the market usually sells quite fast and for a good price.
The name Swieqi means ‘water channels’ appropriately named after the water which used to flow through the valley which separates Swieqi from San Gwann. A nice little trekking route still exists through the valley and starts in Spinola Bay, past many beautiful villas and scenery, taking you all the way up to Madliena when you reach the Victoria Lines.
Unlike other older villages in Malta, Swieqi only has two places of worship; the Church of Immaculate Conception Mother of the Church and the Ibragg Chapel of Our Lady Immaculate Mother of God. To mark the feast on the 8th December, only a small procession and a mass is held which reflects the differing culture of older village traditions in Malta.
