Gzira is situated in the Eastern Central region next to the Marsamxett Harbour where you can find fantastic views of the bastions in Valletta which is lit up at night, the yacht marina and the public gardens. The population of Gzira is 8,029 people in an area of 1.5km² making this a very densely populated area and it looks like this number is going to continue to grow with the construction work that is still going.

Manoel Island
The word Gzira means Island and is named so after Manoel Island which branches off in to the Harbour. In 1623, the Grandmaster of the Knights of Malta Jean Paul Lascaris built a quarantine hospital in an attempt to control the plague and cholera which periodically came in on visiting ships. Fort Manoel was built in 1726 under the guidance of the Portuguese Grandmaster of the Knights of Malta Antonio Maoel di Vilhena whom the Island was eventually named after. The Fort was designed to house 500 soldiers, designed in a quadrangle shape and had a large parade square with baroque chapel which was bombed in World War II. Manoel Island has recently gone under significant renovation and restoration works.

Duck’s Village
Being situated in between Msida and Sliema has made Gzira more attractive for property buyers for its close proximity to the University of Malta in Msida and housing prices are more affordable than Sliema.
