Fgura is located in the South Eastern region of Malta and is mainly a residential town built up in the last 50 years. Having a population of 11,670 people in an area of 1.1km², this makes Fgura one of the most densely populated towns in Malta. It borders Tarxien, Zabbar, Paola and Cospicua and being the most commercial with many shops and supermarkets down the main road, many local villages go to Fgura for their shopping needs.
Even though Fgura was built up in recent times, there is still a lot of history to be found. In fact in 1948, six Phoenician tombs were found dating back to 400 B.C. which proves that Fgura was inhabited a lot earlier that initially expected.
The name Fgura comes from a custom of when the old inhabitants use to stop in front of a niche dedicated to Our Lady Of Mount Carmel and refer to the statue as il-figura.
Other places of interest to be in Fgura are The Cross Monument, Reggie Miller Square, Patri Redent Gauci Gardens and George Stevens Square.
