Even though Fgura was built up in recent times, there is still a lot of history to be found. In fact in 1948, six Phoenician tombs were found dating back to 400 B.C. which proves that Fgura was inhabited a lot earlier that initially expected.
The name Fgura comes from a custom of when the old inhabitants use to stop in front of a niche dedicated to Our Lady Of Mount Carmel and refer to the statue as il-figura.
